Preparatory – Level 0 (Age 8-11)

Level 0

Preparatory

Welcome to the Level 0 Preparatory Course! This course is designed to prepare young, aspiring classical ballet dancers between the ages of 8 and 11 for the Level 1 Foundation Course. Our goal is to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to confidently enter the foundation level of our comprehensive training programme.

During this course, students will receive instruction that focuses on building a strong technical foundation in classical ballet. Our experienced faculty will guide students through the fundamental elements of ballet, including posture, alignment, basic movements, and positions. They will learn proper body awareness and begin to develop coordination, balance, and muscular engagement.

In addition to technical training, students will also be introduced to the artistic side of ballet. They will learn to express themselves through dance, building on their creativity and understanding of musicality. This will lay the groundwork for their future exploration of ballet’s artistic elements.

Proper posture and alignment are crucial in ballet, and students will receive extensive instruction in these areas. They will learn how to position their bodies correctly and develop a strong and healthy foundation for their dance careers.

As students’ progress through the Preparatory Course, they will be encouraged to develop self-motivation and the confidence to pursue their goals in ballet. They will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and rewards of classical ballet, preparing them for the Level 1 Foundation Course.

In addition to ballet training, students will also have the opportunity to explore other dance styles such as Contemporary, Jazz, Street, Latin, Character, and Flamenco through enhancement classes. They will also engage in projects related to anatomy, nutrition, and dance studies, expanding their overall knowledge of dance.

By the end of this course, students will have the skills, knowledge, and confidence to seamlessly transition into the Level 1 Foundation Course. They will be well-prepared to further their ballet training and continue their journey towards becoming accomplished classical ballet dancers.

We look forward to guiding you through this preparatory course and preparing you for the exciting challenges that lie ahead in your ballet training!

Education

Key Stage 2

Students benefit from the small class sizes which allows the. Junior school team to understand each child’s individual needs and tailor their learning experience. Everyone from the Head of Department to teachers, teaching assistants, and the pastoral team works together to create a close-knit family atmosphere where children feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Moorland Junior School helps students prepare for life in senior school. Positive traits such as honesty, respect, self-confidence and independence are encouraged. The unique curriculum gives children a strong foundation for learning and living.

Students are taught a wide range of subjects from English and Maths to Science, Geography, Art, and Design and Technology.

Small class sizes allow the team the chance to give every student the attention they need and help tailor education to individual interests. As always, the students make use of the junior schools’ extensive facilities and experience education as an ongoing process, rather than something done exclusively in the classroom.

Teachers, teaching assistants, and the pastoral team help students deal with educational as well as social and personal concerns. The Junior school constantly feed back to parents so they know exactly how their children are doing with work and school life.

Students are happy, independent, assured of their skills, and ready to meet the demands of secondary education.
