Exposure & Insight into Vocational Training

It includes classes in Classical Ballet, Body Conditioning, Choreography, Character, Classical Repertoire, Drama and Contemporary. The course culminates in a short demonstration of work for parents and teachers.

Key Areas
of Study

Classical Ballet

Students learn the formalised movements and positions of the arms, feet, and body designed to enable the dancer to move with the greatest possible agility, control, speed, lightness, and grace.

Contemporary Ballet

A style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet.

Pas de Deux

A duet. Our students learn how to respect and work with others and are able to become confident with partnering skills.

CHARACTER, FOLK AND SPANISH DANCE

Character dance is a specific subdivision of classical dance. It is the stylised representation of a traditional folk or national dance.

CHOREOGRAPHY CLASSES

Classes develop the imagination and creative response in each dancer, and an understanding of the choreographic process.

STRENGTH AND BODY CONDITIONING

Classes involve exercises that target the whole body, using lots of different muscles to strengthen, shape, and tone.

DRAMA

Students need to learn specific character roles, this is a facet of theatre and drama in ballet and dance

GUEST DIRECTORS AND CHOREOGRAPHERS

Students are treated to termly guest teachers and choreographers during their training.

A GUIDANCE COURSE FOR EXCEPTIONALLY TALENTED DANCE PERFORMERS

Summer school classes are held during August. Students study Classical Ballet, Classical Ballet Repertoire, Contemporary dance, Drama and Character dance. Classes focus on technique, music, artistry and performance skills.

 

The course is open to students who are between 9 and 18 years of age.  Accommodation for all students will be provided in the boarding houses at Moorland School.

Junior Course

The course is open to students who are between 9 and 11 years of age. School years 5-7 as of 1st September 2022. Students should hold Grade 2 Ballet or above qualification.

 

If applicants do not hold a Grade 2 qualification, they may be offered a place at the discretion of the organisers, if they can demonstrate an ability to work at the required level. Students are divided into groups according to age and ability.

Senior Course

The course is open to students who are between 12 and 18 years of age. School years 8-13 as of 1st September 2022. Accommodation for all students will be provided in the boarding houses at Moorland School.

Places are extremely limited

Applications are now open, places are limited to 24 students and therefore application forms should be submitted by Friday 1st April 2022 to be considered for a place on the course.

Acknowledgement of receipt and confirmation of a place will be sent by email.
