24 Jun A Celebration of Dance – Live Stream Event
On Friday we came together as an academy to take part in our ‘Celebration of Dance’ event. Over the past year, it has not always been easy or possible for us to be in one space, dancing together and sharing our art and progress with you all. Ongoing Covid restrictions have also prevented us from having a ‘live’ audience in the studio but we are so pleased that so many families could join us via Zoom.
Our event started with a whole academy performance, showcasing the talent of our students across the age ranges. It was lovely to see families being able to share in the progression of our students after months of being apart. From Australia to Manchester, it was touching to see the pride and joy expressed toward all of the academy.
From fantastic group performances to exquisite solo pieces, each and every one of the students conducted themselves with determination, precision and professionalism.
The awards ceremony gave us a chance to really celebrate the accomplishments of the students and congratulate them on all they have achieved in difficult circumstances. Much of what we pride ourselves on at Moorland Ballet, is the way we support our students in the creation of lasting, respectful and positive friendships. It was humbling to see the genuine pride the students had in each other and the way they celebrated in each other’s success.
One student commented, “It has been so special to come together and perform. It seems such a long time since we were able to do this together. Seeing our families on the big screen meant a lot to all of us.”
After the awards ceremony we took the students to enjoy some time together in Towneley Park, where we spent a few hours exploring and taking a well-earned break from the studio.
When asked about the day, Mr Kidd said ‘It is so important for students in training to have the opportunity to perform and develop their artistry alongside technique. Whilst this has been a challenge during Covid, we have found new ways and opportunities to allow this to happen. Friday’s Demonstration was an amalgamation of a year of hard work and determination to succeed. The students rose to the occasion and shared their passion and enthusiasm for dance with us all. We had a wonderful day filled with fun and laughter, but a possible highlight was when someone took the time to contact me and describe the Moorland Ballet students (who were enjoying a picnic in Towneley Park,) as “so well behaved, polite and an absolute credit to the school.”
Back at Moorland, we settled down for an evening of entertainment courtesy of the British Ballet Gala paired with pizza and popcorn! Watching the various companies perform live was like us taking the first step on the way back to normalcy, and the return of the arts to live theatre.
We look forward to a time when we can all be together again, performing live, with the passion and excellence that define us an academy.
To our students, we are so proud of all of you. Keep working hard and shining brightly.
